My path to the present began with chronic pain. As a teen, I suffered with chronic back and pelvic pain attributed to Endometriosis. After too many surgeries and surgical procedures I opted for a complete hysterectomy at the tender age of 28. By that time I had developed a pretty nasty dependence on prescription pain meds which eventually led to two (yes, two) stints in a fabulous rehab facility. When I checked out of rehab in 2003, I was proud of the fact that I had stopped using all narcotics. However, I was still taking over 10 “meds” every single day to “manage” life on life’s terms.

I was confused as to how I was going to change my body, mind, and spirit while continuing to take so many “meds”. I started slowly. First stop, I had to fire the doctors I was seeing. Second, I found a new doctor who understood my needs and desires for a healthy, pain free life without a handful of pills each morning. Next, I dove head first into 12 step recovery.  It changed my life and my course forever.  I’ve been completely sober for over 10 years now.  THANK YOU GOD!

I still needed A LOT of help. I unrolled my yoga mat and got back into downward dog. I had a practice previous to getting sober, but this time it was all REAL. I was present for the teachings and I loved the immediate results I got from the yoga postures, the breathing, and the meditations. Next, I hit the pavement. I started walking and noticed that my mind started to clear a little bit more with each walk. I felt better emotionally and physically. I was able to give up the antidepressants and the mood stabilizers. Hallelujah! During this time I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils. From my first whiff of Peace and Calming, I knew I’d be using them for the rest of my life. I quickly started using the oils on a regular basis. I use them on my family members, my pets, and pretty much anyone else who will sit still long enough for me to apply them!

I started to really straighten out mentally, physically, and spiritually. I began to practice mindfulness techniques and I learned that there are no quick fixes for lasting, permanent healing, and change. Today, I feel like a completely different person inside and out. I’ve switched all of those medications for healthy alternatives such as yoga, mindfulness, essential oils, walking, and clean eating.

I belong to a community that practices living a healthy and natural lifestyle and I’m so blessed to be able to teach my students how to get there.  Join me!
